In the summer of 2013, Tamra earned an MFA from the Stonecoast MFA program and turned her attention to poetry full time. After teaching in Vermont’s public schools for 19 years, she has embarked on an exciting new beginning by creating Sundog Poetry Center, which involves three loves: poetry, organizing events, and teaching. In order to offer a wide range of high-quality offerings, Tamra restructured the business into a nonprofit organization in Feburary, 2014.
Tamra’s work has appeared in Prairie Schooner, Vermont Magazine, Avocet, The Aurorean, The Mountain Troubadour, Stonecoast Lines, Passager, bottle rockets, and Modern Haiku. Additionally, she has read her work at Vermont Studio Center (Johnson, Vermont), Dingle Bookshop (Dingle, Ireland), and The Stone House (University of Southern Maine). Her collection of poetry, Nothing Saved Us: Poems of the Korean War was published in 2014 by Windridge Books of Vermont and is now available through Sundog Poetry. A chapbook, Tenderbellied, is forthcoming in spring, 2016 from May Day Studio. Tamra’s poetry, photography, and blog, The Quality of Light can be found at tamrajhiggins.com.
