You’ve fed them, clothed them, and they’ve thanked you graciously—then flown the coop! Part of you feels victorious and proud that your fledglings have taken wing and part of you is languishing—now what to do to fill the space?! After so many hours doing this “job” you’ve loved, it’s time to refocus and make the nest comfy for you—we’ll take a look at what the empty nest really feels like and where to journey to begin the re-nesting process.

Mary Rose Dougherty holds an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. Currently, she is a trainee under the supervision of the National Association of Poetry Therapy (NAPT).
